Make Rights for Kids on Bikes – Cycle Safe UK Petition

PM Boris Johnson, UK Government

Wanted – permanent protected/segregated cycleways in main roads as well as low traffic neighbourhoods.

In this Climate Emergency and in association with Friends of the Earth and Climate Action Groups all over the country, we petition the UK Government for permanent safe cycleways (protected/segregated cycleways on main roads, complimented by low traffic neighbourhoods) to become a fundamental human right for those choosing to cycle within city boundaries, especially near schools and for sufficient funding to be made available urgently.

Our children need to be able to cycle safely to school and around their cities, the general population should have this right too. Funding needs to be made available to City Councils for permanent safe cycleways, £2 billion for active transport over 5 years is not enough. We ask the Government to build fewer new roads and more permanent new cycleways.

Signing this petition is also signing in support of improving air quality, saying yes to healthier lifestyles for both children and adults and helping to reduce obesity.

While many councils have worked hard to establish temporary cycleways post lockdown as per Government guidelines, the advantages of such action will be lost if these temporary measures are then removed following complaints from disgruntled motorists. Please support this petition asking for permanent safe cycleways. We are in a Climate Emergency, help create a cleaner greener future for our children.

Over 60% of the population of Copenhagen cycle daily because they have a safe cycling environment.

Thank you for your support.
