NJDEP AWP 2020

NJ DEP Commissioner Catherine McCabe

Local 1036 is collecting petition signatures to further our efforts to expand AWP in 2020. The Union has advocated for flexibility, work-life balance, and reasonable changes that will actually improve operations. We ask every member - whether you are on AWP or not - to support these efforts.

Improved air quality, reduced commuting, extended hours of coverage both at the office and in the field, and a better work-life balance at DEP ... these all start with an expanded AWP program.

DEP members support these reasonable modifications to AWP. These modifications will further the Commissioner's objective first shared in 2018: "having more flexibility in our schedules promotes better work-life balance and boosts productivity."

* Allow AWP and schedule modifications during weeks where there is a holiday

* Provide scheduling flexibility outside the prescribed hours in the current policy and allow the ability to work longer days and shorter days

* Remove the requirement that a supervisor must be present - we are all adults and professionals

* Remove restrictions on managers and allow them to participate in more than 1 AWP day per pay period

* Eliminate the sign-in and sign-out requirements that are linked to AWP

* Streamline approval process and establish a fair way to resolve disputes

We urge the Department to expand AWP with the above modifications.
