No Cuts — Tax the Rich!

Washington State Legislature

No cuts tax the rich!

Public employees keep our roads safe, our children educated and fed, our environment clean, and perform many other important jobs.

Every year, public servants are asked to do more with less:

  • Psychiatric hospitals don’t have enough workers, risking their patients’ health and safety.
  • Increasing workloads in child welfare with no increase in staffing has caused the rate of child fatalities and near-fatalities to triple since 2021.
  • Student learning is in jeopardy because of growing class sizes and lack of support for Special Education, behavioral challenges, and Multi-Lingual Learning.
  • The Department of Corrections is down 200 positions, and there is a backlog of 13,000 warrants out for people who have violated supervision.

Now, thanks to rising costs, falling revenue, and chaos at the federal level, a state budget shortfall is posing new threats to these services that Washingtonians depend on.

Our upside-down tax code means we pay for these services with taxes that hit low- and-middle-income people the hardest, like sales, gas, and property taxes. We pay up to four times as much of our income in taxes as the wealthy do.

Millionaires and billionaires in Washington—who were already paying less than what they owe in taxes—will now get tax breaks of more than $7 billion through HR1.

It’s past time for them to step up and pay their share for the services we all need.

By signing this petition, you are demanding that our state representatives make the wealthy pay what they truly owe in taxes.

We demand that the Washington State Legislature take action during the 2026 legislative session to make the wealthy pay what they truly owe in taxes.
