No Flock for SoPo
South Portland City Council
South Portland participates in a nationwide surveillance network through its existing contract with Flock Safety, which was entered into without a clear public process for input from the citizens of South Portland. Under the contract, South Portland has six surveillance cameras that monitor South Portland residents as they drive through Cash Corner, around the Mall, and near the Airport, and it is seeking to add another camera this year. The data from those cameras--including photos, videos, and license plate information--can be shared with a nationwide network of law enforcement agencies without a warrant.
We are asking the Council to immediately end the contract with Flock Safety and not appropriate any money for Flock in this year's budget. Our mission is to abolish the use of AI-powered surveillance by the South Portland Police Department, including Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs). Sign the petition to support this ask.
