No more empty promises - CCDCFS Deserves REAL safety solutions!

Target: Cuyahoga  County Executive - Chris Ronayne, DCFS Director - Jacqueline Fletcher, HHS Director - David Merriman, County Council President- Pernel Jones, County Council Vice President - Cheryl Stephens, Chair of HHS Committee - Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell

Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services is comprised of deeply
committed public service professionals, including social workers, child care providers,
transporters and so many others.

CCDCFS employees are dedicated public service professionals who work hard to create a
safe and nurturing environment for children who have been abused or face issues of
neglect in their homes. The employees and the children have been promised a safe
environment - but the situation continues to spiral out of control. Employees are dealing with
daily instances of violence that have only increased in severity, creating a dangerous
workplace for DCFS employees and the children who are looking for a safe and healthy
place to recover and regroup from already difficult situations.

DCFS Employees and the children deserve a SAFE environment, tell Cuyahoga County
DCFS to stop making empty promises. The county administration needs to develop and
implement real safety solutions that protect its employees and the children they care for. It is
the responsibility of the employer to take reasonable measures to minimize the likelihood of
workplace violence.

No more broken promises - we want real SAFETY solutions!

I support AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Local 1746 members who are demanding that Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services and the County Executive address the threat of violence and lack of safety and security, members and the children they care for, face everyday. The solution is not to prosecute dedicated public service professionals who are only trying to defend themselves and children who find themselves in the crosshairs of violent situations. Instead, the administration must work with our members to create a workplace violence prevention program that identifies; key violence stressors, provide training, and most importantly, provide the resources and staff County DCFS employees and
children need to stay safe and healthy.

AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Local 1746 recommends that any comprehensive safety plan include these important building blocks to address the safety crisis at
Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services.

• Management commitment & employee involvement
• Worksite analysis & hazard identification
• Hazard prevention & control
• Health & safety training; and
• Record keeping & program evaluation

Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services and those they serve need immediate and real SAFETY solutions. We urge the administration to ACT NOW!
