Protect Working-Class Students: No Tuition Increases!

David Rudd, President, University of Memphis; The Board of Trustees of University of Memphis

The Memphis Young Democratic Socialists believes that it is completely inappropriate for President Rudd to accept a $96,000 raise, with brand new benefits, while campus workers still struggle to get by without a living wage. We oppose his new $525,000 salary - and we hope other students will join us in this opposition. We call upon President Rudd to forfeit his raise, and insist that every campus worker earns $15/hour.

Dear President Rudd and the Board of Trustees,

We believe it is inappropriate for you to accept a $96,000 raise, with brand new benefits, while campus workers and students still struggle to get by without a living wage.

We oppose your new $525,000 salary - and your nearly $2 million in new bonuses and benefits. We call upon the Board of Trustees to rescind this raise and new benefits.

We oppose your recent decision to decline to engage with the United Campus Workers. We call upon President Rudd to engage publicly with the Young Democratic Socialists and the United Campus Workers, and to reveal your plan to increase the pay of all campus workers to $15.

We oppose any increases in tuition or fees, of any amount, in any department. We call upon the President and the Board of Trustees to freeze tuition and all administrative fees, not to be increased without the approval of the students.
