Not Above the Law: Hold Mark Meadows in contempt

U.S. House

This is huge: the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol has unanimously recommended that Mark Meadows be held in criminal contempt.

Meadows, who could know firsthand just how involved Trump was in the deadly attack, refused to appear for a recent deposition before the Committee. Now, the full House will vote on Meadows’ fate -- and if these members of Congress side with the Committee, Meadows could face a massive fine or even jail time.

You may remember Mark Meadows as Trump’s chief of staff and right-hand man throughout his presidency. He helped to spread Trump’s dangerous conspiracy theories about the 2020 election -- even though, in his personal text messages, he was very skeptical about them. [1]

Meadows’ sworn testimony could contain game-changing information. He reportedly sent an email the day before the insurrection stating that the National Guard would be used to defend Trump supporters -- and he regularly worked with party insiders after the election to help replace Joe Biden’s electors with ones who would support Trump.

But if the House lets Meadows put himself above the law and ignore lawful subpoenas, we may never know what role he and Trump played in the insurrection.

We deserve the truth. We deserve to know everything that happened during and leading up to that horrific day -- and every person who helped incite or coordinate the attack must be held accountable.

If you agree that the House should vote to hold Meadows in criminal contempt, sending a strong message to anyone who may try to interfere with this investigation -- add your name.

Mark Meadows -- ex-President Trump’s chief of staff who may have helped to encourage or facilitate the January 6th insurrection -- refused to comply with lawful orders from the House Select Committee investigating the deadly attack. In response, the Committee voted to recommend that Meadows be held in criminal contempt of Congress.

Meadows and Trump are not above the law -- and the American people deserve the truth about the role they played in this horrific riot. When the full U.S. House takes up Meadows’ contempt charge, we urge every congressperson to follow the Committee’s lead and vote YES.
