Oil and Wellington don't mix! Ban the petroleum conference from council owned venues

Justin Lester, Mayor of Wellington

Become a climate superhero and kick fossil fuel conferences out of Wellington!

Are you ready to become a climate superhero?

We need to make sure our world is clean and safe for everyone - and you can help Wellington make the changes needed to protect our planet.

Justin Lester has said “Climate change is the most pressing issue of my generation” and “...how we plan, grow, and build our cities is going to be critical in the global fight against climate change.” He takes this stuff seriously.

But several times over the past five years, including in 2018, The Petroleum Exploration and Production Association of New Zealand (PEPANZ) have held their conference in council venues. These industries create massive amounts of pollution and cause climate change.

You can help save the world - join us to ask Wellington Mayor Justin Lester to stop fossil fuel companies using council owned venues!

You have said that “Climate change is the most pressing issue of my generation” and “how we plan, grow, and build our cities is going to be critical in the global fight against climate change.” You obviously take this stuff seriously.

So why in 2018 did the City Council allow a fossil fuel conference to be held in the TSB Arena?

It just doesn’t make sense that you and the Council would welcome the fossil fuel industry to council owned venues. Luckily, we think that climate superheroes like you have the power to help Wellington become “Absolutely positively fossil-free”!

We are calling on you to send a powerful message to PEPANZ, the representative of the NZ fossil fuel industry, by banning them from future use of Wellington council owned venues for their annual conference.
