Dear Neighbor,

We don’t often write letters like this one, but we feel strongly about the upcoming Primary election on June 25th. The Queens District Attorney election is coming up and this will be the most important election this year. We’re writing this letter because we need you to vote on June 25 for Tiffany Caban. We have the chance to transform the criminal justice system, by working to change behavior not just incarcerate people. We want a just system that makes Queens safer and we believe Tiffany Cabán to be that candidate.

For the past 28 years, the Queens District Attorney’s office has disproportionately punished poor, black and brown, immigrant communities causing destabilization which reduces safety for everyone. We can not allow the District Attorney’s office to oppress and marginalize our neighbors. Incarceration has consequences that extend far beyond the criminal justice system, to housing, employment, and voting rights for example. We believe that Tiffany Cabán will break this cycle, and will put community stability at the center of her approach as Queens DA.

Right now, the Queens District Attorney measures success by convictions and length of sentences which that creates a culture where we target minor offenses that disproportionately targets immigrant, poor, black and brown communities. Tiffany thinks we need to focus on two key questions: How can prevent this harm from happening again and what can we do to keep our communities safer in actuality.

Tiffany Caban is the only major candidate in the race that does not accept any corporate PAC or real estate donations. She will work tirelessly for all the people in Queens and we believe that she will focus on protecting us from the true reasons of destabilization in our community: substance abuse, mental health issues, housing insecurity, poverty, white collar crimes, wage theft, and doctors overprescribing opioids, to name some.
