All Members of Congress

Whether it’s abandoning the Paris Climate accord or weakening regulations on clean air and water, industry insiders are calling the shots in the Trump administration.

Now, Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing new regulations -- without any public input -- that political appointees can decide what should or should not be made public under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Their goal is to gut environmental protections while enriching polluting industries -- such as the coal and chemical industries -- that destroy our environment and our communities, while keeping this information out of the public domain.

This is not acceptable. They are using a ploy called the “no records” response to keep crucial information secret.

At the same time that the administration is restricting our access to information, the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned more than 40 years of FOIA precedent in ruling in favor of corporate secrecy over the public’s right to know.

But now a bipartisan group of senators has introduced the Open and Responsive Government Act of 2019 to safeguard FOIA requests and ensure the public’s right to information.

Add your name! Become a grassroots co-signer of this legislation today! We must stand together to defend the public’s ability to use FOIA requests and protect our right to know what our government is up to.

The Trump administration and the U.S. Supreme Court have both taken recent actions that greatly restrict the public’s right to information. It is imperative that Congress act swiftly to pass the bipartisan Open and Responsive Government Act of 2019 to ensure that the public -- including public interest organizations and journalists -- can access information in the way the Freedom of Information Act intended. Defend our right to know what our government is up to and pass this critical legislation!
