Park County has lost confidence in Superintendent Joe Torrez

Superintendent Joe Torrez

Superintendent Joe Torrez has been the superintendent of Park County RE-2 School District since 2017. In that time Mr. Torrez has not shown the leadership, integrity, or resolve to advance the districts’ students interests.

He informed South Park Education Association (SPEA) leadership during the October 2019 strike that he had no authority to bargain with the Association or make decisions regarding the bargaining process.

He heard, with his back turned to those who testified, more than an hour of public commentary at the last Board of Education meeting supporting Park County educators and cries for financial transparency and the very next day, Mr. Torrez and the school board rejected SPEA’s latest proposal, in which SPEA took out their additional salary demands but included a request for an independent, third-party factfinder.

Superintendent Joe Torrez has lost the confidence of the Park County RE-2 School District community and must resign immediately.

Dear Superintendent Torrez,

You have been the superintendent of Park County RE-2 School District since 2017. In that time, you have not shown the leadership, integrity, or resolve to advance the districts’ students interests.

You informed the South Park Education Association (SPEA) leadership during the October 2019 strike that you did not have the authority to bargain with the Association or make decisions regarding the bargaining process. When we needed a leader, you chose instead to hide and defer.

At the last Board of education meeting, you heard, with your back turned, more than an hour of public commentary supporting Park County educators and public demand for financial transparency. You chose to ignore those demands. The very next day, you and the school board rejected SPEA’s latest proposal; a proposal in which SPEA took out their additional salary demands but included a request for an independent, third-party fact-finder.

You have lost the confidence of the educators, parents, and the community of Park County RE-2 School District and you must resign immediately.

Signed,
The Members of the Park County RE-2 School District Community
