Pearland ISD: Mandate mask wearing to protect our children and offer a virtual learning option

Pearland ISD Superintendent and Board of Trustees

The Delta variant of COVID has rendered Brazoria County extremely high risk for children who cannot receive the COVID vaccine (all those under 12). The Houston area currently has no pediatric ICU beds available.

Governor Abbott has prohibited local control, which would allow school districts to mandate mask wearing to protect the health and safety of our children, teachers, school staff, and our overall communities.

The Pearland ISD Superintendent and Board of Trustees refuse any action on mask mandates and remote learning, playing political football with our children's lives . We are asking Pearland ISD to join Houston ISD, Spring ISD, Austin ISD, Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, San Antonio ISD, North East ISD, Edgewood ISD, Harlandale ISD, and Alamo Heights ISD to mandate mask wearing despite the Governors Executive Order in the interest of public safety.

Until this pandemic has been mitigated and finally contained, we are also asking for Pearland ISD to provide a remote learning option in addition to the mask mandate.
