SAVE OUR STREETS and phase out diesel and petrol engines by 2030.

Air pollution contributes to the early deaths of tens of thousands of UK residents a year. It is linked to a wide variety of chronic, irreversible and debilitating illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, dementia and respiratory illnesses. It is linked to low birth weight, stunted lung growth and reduced cognitive abilities in babies and children. The UK has one of the highest asthma rates in the world amongst children.

As a group of concerned London residents we are calling on you to set 2030 at the latest as the date for the phasing out of diesel and petrol engines.

The government's commitment to 2035 is too little too late, and today's children will grow up without seeing any improvement in the illegally polluted air that they breathe.

We know that road transport is responsible for 50% of dangerous nitrogen oxide emissions in London.

Ireland has already committed to phasing out combustion engines by this date.

At a time where we know we have to act now to prevent climate breakdown, we need faster and more confident action from the UK government.
