Protect Chicago's Bubble Zone Ordinance

City of Chicago

Some of you remember the days before Chicago’s Bubble Zone was enacted. Anti-choice protesters would harass and follow patients all the way up to the door of clinics, sometimes even blocking their passage.

The leaders of Pro-Life Action League were quoted by the Chicago Tribune in November 2009“Scheidler said the Pro-Life Action League would file suit in federal court this week to enjoin the ordinance, which he called an unconstitutional violation of free-speech rights.”

Earlier this week, the Pro-Life Action League finally made good on their promise and filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Chicago’s Buffer “Bubble” Zone that was enacted in late 2009 to protect patients, providers, and companions from harassment and violence when attempting to enter a clinic.

This ordinance provides 8 sacred feet around the patient, within 50 feet of the clinic entrance. Anytime we have to call the police, which is most days, it is for violating this law.

Illinois Choice Action Team will not back down, we will continue to fight for safe patient access.

Please sign this petition to the City of Chicago telling them to fight this lawsuit.

I believe Chicago's Buffer "Bubble" Zone Ordinance protects patients and providers. The bubble zone is important in defending patients from harassment and violence outside family planning clinics.

I believe in safe passage for those accessing reproductive services and please stand up to the Pro-Life Action League lawsuit and please fight to keep the 2009 ordinance in place.
