Reinvest in Effective Policies for Crime Victims

Members of the Arizona Legislature, Arizona Governor, and Attorney General

Right now, critical public safety systems are stretched thin. Cold case units are understaffed or missing entirely, crime labs face serious technology and testing gaps, and families are left waiting far too long for answers.

Instead of directing resources where they are actually needed, Arizona continues to pour millions of taxpayer dollars into costly, ineffective policies like the death penalty and the felony murder. Those policies do not solve more cases, support victims’ families, or make communities safer.

This petition encourages legislators to invest in law enforcement capacity, forensic testing, victim services, and real solutions that help deliver accountability and not just punishments that do nothing to prevent future crime.

Arizona’s law enforcement infrastructure is under-resourced and unequipped to effectively address unsolved and violent crimes. As a state tax payer I want my contributions to be invested in solutions that will prevent crime, support crime victims, and hold people accountable for harm effectively.

Across the state, many cold case units are either understaffed or don’t exist at all. Our forensic and DNA laboratories lack critical technology and testing capabilities. Lacking modern infrastructure, agencies are left with no choice but manage backlogs, use expensive private labs, or rely on volunteers to help solve capacity needs.

The resources needed to support law enforcement, crime labs, and families are tied up by millions of taxpayer dollars being funneled into costly and ineffective policies like death penalty. Just one case capital case utilizes resources that could help 25 families with victim compensation or run a rural cold case unit for years. Justice can be served to victims without a death sentence and court resources tied up for decades.

I am asking you to invest public funds wisely and away from policy we know doesn't work for Arizonans. We must prioritize smart, fiscally responsible, and effective public safety strategies; ones that actually serve our communities and deliver real support to crime victims and agencies that work to bring legal finality to their families.
