Rep. Tom Price Should Face Criminal Investigation

U.S. Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission

Insider trading is a serious offense. It is one of the charges that landed Enron CEO Jeff Skilling in prison. And it’s what caused Martha Stewart to spend five months in jail.

Instead of becoming Secretary of Health and Human Services, Rep. Tom Price should face criminal investigation by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission for insider trading.

In his hearing last week before the U.S. Senate, Price’s testimony revealed that he purchased as much as $100,000 worth of pharmaceutical stock in a sweetheart deal not available to the public. Within four months, that stock – originally purchased at $0.18 a share – shot up to $1.55 a share.

During his time in Congress, as Chairman of the Health and Human Services Subcommittee, Price has successfully blocked regulations and introduced and supported legislation that would personally benefit himself. Tom Price has a personal financial stake in ensuring that Americans pay as high a price as possible for the life-saving drugs on which we rely.
