Rio Grande LNG does not belong in Charro Days.

It is disrespectful to allow Rio Grande LNG to stamp its corporate logo on the parade when many of us know this would be a destructive fossil fuel project. Please sign our petition calling on Charro Days to drop the sponsorship immediately.

Charro Days is a celebration of our community, so why is the fiesta accepting sponsorship from NextDecade Rio Grande LNG, a fossil fuel project that would hurt and pollute the community?

Rio Grande LNG is a fracked gas export terminal proposed on HWY 48 that would be next door to the communities of Port Isabel, South Padre Island, and Laguna Vista. These communities are diligently fighting to stop the fracked gas project from going forward. Why? Rio Grande LNG would be the biggest polluter in the Valley, spewing toxic air pollution into neighborhoods and the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge. This project would be part of a polluting industry that could hurt the local economy, which depends on a clean environment for fishing, nature, and beach tourism.

In fact, this February, the City of Port Isabel adamantly expressed their opposition to LNG when they filed a lawsuit against the Port of Brownsville for leasing land to the LNG company.

Please sign our petition below calling on Charro Days to drop the sponsorship immediately.
