RNC: Disavow the Family Research Council

Reince Priebus, Chairman of the RNC

Over the years, the Family Research Council has proven itself to be a breeding ground of anti-LGBT, anti-woman, anti-immigrant sentiment. From its fake "research" arms to its annual Values Voters Summit confab, FRC has brought harm to innumerable Americans.

It's no secret that FRC, and its head -- Tony Perkins -- is interested in shaping the future of the Republican Party. But given the organization's focus on demeaning and devaluing nearly all Americans through its rhetoric, it's time for the Republican National Committee to either denounce or embrace Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council.

We are petitioning Reince Priebus, chair of the RNC, to distance the party from the Family Research Council. If no effort to distance the party is made, we will all know clearly where the future of the Republican Party lies.

The Family Research Council has caused harm for years to women, LGBT individuals, immigrants, and communities of color by fueling an inaccurate and fear-based rhetoric of exclusion. Given that the Republican Party is examining how to reach out to an increasingly diverse voter base, we are calling on the RNC to denounce the Family Research Council and its harmful rhetoric.
