On June 17th, SAMWU won their union with 94% voting UNION YES.

It's time to listen to workers' voices so the museum and our community can move forward together and bring SAM to new heights.

We, the undersigned – community organizations, labor unions, artists, SAM members, and concerned community members – are in full support of the employees of the Seattle Art Museum who are unionizing as SAM Workers United and call on the museum to negotiate a fair and full first contract with their employees.

A strong supermajority of workers supported unionizing. We join their call for SAM’s Board and leadership to:

- Respect employees’ right to organize without interference

- Refrain from wasting SAM and other community resources on an anti-union campaign

- Bargain a full and fair contract with workers

Art brings us together. At the same time, art is nothing without community, and it is the labor, creativity, and dedication of museum employees that brings SAM and its art to life each day. 

We, as members of the community, stand with SAM employees, and believe in their legal right to unionize without fear of retaliation or interference from management.

It's time to sit down at the negotiating table so workers, the museum, and our community can move forward together and bring SAM to new heights.​
