In the wake of George Floyd's lynching on Memorial Day, followed by the unmasking of white supremacy in law enforcement, the country is on fire this summer.
The Black community in Santa Fe and our accomplices of all other races call for visionary leadership and action from the City now. We ask the Mayor and City Councilors to publicly pledge to defund the police and invest in community. We want our elected officials to join the movement to end structural racism in the City Different. Black Lives Matter.

We ask that the Council members and Mayor commit to:
1. Defund the police.
Reduce the Police Department (SFPD) budget by $3 million in Fiscal Year 2020-2021, which begins on July 1. In Fiscal Year 2018-2019 the SFPD budget was $28.8M, or 8.6% of the City's budget.
2. Create a city Department of Equity and Racial Justice.
Invest $3M cut from SFPD into a newly formed Department of Equity and Racial Justice that wields investigatory powers to research, document and assure equity in all city businesses, city agencies, and community affairs.
3. Honor the First Amendment rights of any civil disobedience protestors who are detained or arrested from May 29 through the end of this unrest by dismissing charges against them.
4. Establish a Citizens Oversight and Review Board that functions as an independent body to investigate police misconduct, excessive force, and abuse of power.
5. Declare a moratorium on residential evictions and utility (water, electricity, gas, and internet) shut-offs until January 1, 2021.

Pedimos a los miembros del Concejo Municipal y Alcalde que se comprometan a:
1. Reducir el presupuesto destinado al departamento de policía. Reducir el presupuesto del Departamento de Policía (SFPD) $3 millones de dólares en el año fiscal 2020-2021 que comienza el 1 de julio. En el año fiscal 2018-2019, el presupuesto del SFPD fue de $28.8M, o 8.6% del presupuesto de la Ciudad.
2. Crear un Departamento de Equidad y Justicia Racial. Invertir $3 millones quitado del SFPD en un Departamento de Equidad y Justicia Racial que se forme que ejercer el poder de investigar, documentar y garantizar la equidad en todos los negocios y agencias de la ciudad y asuntos comunitarios.
3. Respetar los derechos de la Primera Enmienda de cualquier manifestante de desobediencia civil que sea detenido o arrestado, desde el 29 de mayo hasta el final de estos disturbios, desestimando los cargos en su contra.
4. Establecer una Junta de Supervisión y Revisión de Ciudadanos que funcione como un organismo independiente para investigar la mala conducta policial, la fuerza excesiva y el abuso de poder.
5. Declarar una moratoria en los desalojos residenciales y cortes de servicios públicos (agua, electricidad, gas e internet) hasta el 1 de enero del 2021.
