SAVE JAY LITTLETON BALL PARK

Protect Ontario’s Historic Baseball Field

Jay Littleton Ball Park has served Ontario families for generations. The historic baseball stadium has hosted youth baseball games, community events, and even major film productions.

The ballpark became nationally recognized after appearing in films such as A League of Their Own and The Babe, as well as television productions like The X-Files.

For decades, thousands of local families and youth players have used the field as a vital part of Ontario’s community life.

Today, the future of this historic site is uncertain.

What’s Happening

The Ontario City Council is considering several different concepts for the future of the site.

These proposals include options such as:

• multi-purpose sports fields
• a splash park or water feature
• a community center
• rebuilding the historic baseball field

Many residents believe the process so far has not provided sufficient opportunities for the broader community to participate in shaping the future of the site.

What the Community Supports

Residents supporting the Save Jay Littleton Ball Park campaign believe the best path forward includes three key steps.

1. Restore the Historic Ballpark

Jay Littleton Ball Park is one of the region’s most recognizable historic baseball venues. Restoring the field preserves an important piece of Ontario’s history.

2. Reopen the Field for Public Use

The field should be repaired and reopened so families and youth athletes can once again enjoy the park.

3. Preserve the Boy Scout Club House

The Boy Scout Club House is another historic structure connected to the park and should remain part of the site’s future.

4. Engage the Community

Major decisions about this historic site should include robust community outreach such as:

• neighborhood meetings
• mail and online outreach
• opportunities for residents to provide input

Why This Matters

Historic places help define a city’s identity.

Once a historic landmark is lost, it cannot truly be recreated.

Jay Littleton Ball Park is more than a baseball field — it is part of Ontario’s story.

Subject: Immediate Reopening, Public Engagement, Historic Rebuild, and Preservation of the Scout House at Jay Littleton Ballpark

Honorable Mayor and Members of the Ontario City Council,

I am writing as a resident and community member who cares deeply about the future of Jay Littleton Ballpark and the historic Boy Scout House located at the site. These places are important pieces of Ontario’s history and community life. I respectfully urge the City to take immediate action to protect, reopen, and responsibly plan the future of this historic public space.

1) Reopen the ballpark field immediately for public use

I urge the City to restore safe, basic public access to the Littleton Ballpark field as soon as possible. The City should make the necessary repairs now so the field can become operational again for public use. Our community should not have to wait years for access to a public space that can be made usable in the near term with practical repairs and safety improvements.

2) Expand public outreach and input far beyond a few meetings

The scheduled community meetings are a start, but holding three in one week at inconvenient times cannot be the City’s only outreach effort. I ask the City to conduct intensive and inclusive public engagement, including:

• Additional in-person meetings at varied times and locations
• Virtual participation options for those who cannot attend in person
• Outreach at local parks and community events
• Direct outreach to residents through mailers, phone calls, and text messages so the public understands what is happening and how they can participate

A project of this historic importance deserves broad community involvement.

3) Prioritize a historic rebuild and invite ideas that honor the site

I support a historic rebuild of Jay Littleton Ballpark that respects and preserves the character and legacy of this unique community landmark. I also encourage the City to invite public ideas about how the site can be enhanced—through thoughtful design, community programming, historical interpretation, and other improvements that honor the site while serving future generations.

4) Provide a full and transparent breakdown of the rebuild cost estimates

At the February 3, 2026, City Council meeting, you were presented with several cost estimates for rebuilding the ballpark. I request a full written analysis explaining:

• Where the dollar amounts came from
• The specific scope of work included in each estimate
• The assumptions and methodologies used to develop the estimates

These estimates should not be treated as the only options. The City should also explore and present additional alternatives, including phased or community-informed approaches.

5) Preserve and protect the historic Boy Scout House

Protecting the historic Scout House on site is as important as preserving the ballpark itself. At present, no proposal before the City Council guarantees the protection of the Scout House, and that is unacceptable for a structure that represents an important part of Ontario’s local history.

I ask the City Council to commit to preserving the Scout House as a historic asset and to ensure that any future plans for the site incorporate and protect this structure.

In closing, I respectfully ask the City Council to:

1. Take immediate steps to reopen the Littleton Ballpark field for public use through necessary repairs.
2. Implement a robust public engagement effort that reaches the broader community.
3. Prioritize a historic rebuild that honors the ballpark’s legacy.
4. Provide a transparent breakdown of all rebuild cost estimates and scopes of work.
5. Commit to preserving and protecting the historic Boy Scout House.

Jay Littleton Ballpark and the Scout House are not just pieces of land or buildings—they are part of Ontario’s history and the memories of generations of residents. I hope the City will treat them with the care and respect they deserve.
