Save Lynn Public Schools - Stop Charter School Expansion in Lynn

Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Last year, Lynn residents spoke loud and clear through their overwhelming vote against Question 2: We don’t want more charter schools that siphon much-needed resources from our public schools and that fall short in serving our highest-need students, particularly English language learners and students with disabilities.

Charter schools already drain more than $17 million from the Lynn Public Schools. The proposal for a new charter school in Lynn from Equity Lab and the proposed expansion of KIPP Lynn Charter School could mean an additional $17 million funneled out of the Lynn Public Schools. How is that responsible when our public schools already are underfunded, in need of repairs, with classes that are too large?

That’s why elected Lynn leaders, along with students, parents and teachers, are standing together to
oppose these irresponsible, undemocratic, and educationally unsound proposals.

We stand in strong opposition to further charter school expansion in Lynn, including in opposition to the application for a new Equity Lab Charter School and to the request by KIPP Lynn to expand their seats. We strongly urge you to respect the wishes of Lynn residents and vote against these irresponsible, undemocratic, and educationally unsound proposals.
