New Hampshire state legislators are trying to outright ban offshore wind technology on the heels of an irresponsible executive order to halt new permits. Sign our petition to show our government that we need offshore wind!
Offshore wind is a renewable energy technology that is critical to the clean energy transition in our region. The Atlantic Coast, and particularly the Gulf of Maine has great potential for wind energy because of the consistent wind speeds. Misinformation around offshore wind is being propagated, currently by legislators that do not believe in human-caused climate change. Here are benefits about offshore wind we want you to fight for:
- Jobs: offshore wind development will create jobs in NH
- Pollution: Wind energy reduces carbon pollution, and reduces oil spills and other pollutants.
- Brings Costs down: we are over-dependent on natural gas for fuel (prices are volatile) We need to diversify the energy we get and offshore wind is a great opportunity to do that because it is more cost effective and cleaner.
- Transitioning off fossil fuels: climate change is negatively impacting our oceans and evidence shows that we need to transition off of fossil fuels to stop the worst impacts. Wind power is a clean alternative to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

New Hampshire should not ban offshore wind. In 2018 and 2019, over 20 cities and towns across the state passed resolutions in support of offshore wind and Governor Sununu listened, signing the state on to join the Task Force with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. The leasing process in the Gulf of Maine is underway and projects are moving forward. Now is not the time for the state to attempt to backtrack, banning offshore wind and trying to prevent the state from engaging in the process.
Offshore wind will bring important benefits to the state like quality jobs, clean energy, lower utility bills, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Wind energy will help reduce the possibility for dangerous oil spills in the Gulf of Maine.
For the sake of our economy and our environment, we ask Governor Ayotte to commit to veto-ing HB 682, HB 575, and HCR 4 if they reach her desk. We ask the House of Representatives to vote down these bills.
