SAVE OUR PHARMACY

Howard Koeppel

Many of our neighbors get their prescriptions and healthcare needs from our local Walgreens, and we need it to remain open. We are the epicenter of the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis, and we cannot afford to lose a pharmacy because Howard Koeppel is increasing their rent. Join us in demanding Koeppel do the right thing and, at the very least, extend Walgreens' its lease until after the pandemic.

Dear Howard Koeppel:

We are writing to urge you to save our pharmacy at 78-11 Northern Boulevard. The devastating impact of the Coronavirus on our community has made the need for convenient access to healthcare more important than ever. The Walgreens pharmacy is being forced to close, leaving our community vulnerable at the worst possible moment, because you are raising the rent so high that even a large corporation can’t afford to continue business here. As the property owner, we are demanding that you suspend any rent increases until the pandemic is over to save lives in our community.

We are residents of Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst who rely on this pharmacy as our primary place to access prescriptions and other important healthcare needs. We are seniors, we have disabilities, we have children, and many of us rely on this pharmacy for life-sustaining medications.

Our local pharmacy is closing in response to exorbitant rent increases on property that you own, in the middle of a public health pandemic. When even a multi-billion dollar corporation can no longer afford the rent in our neighborhood, what does that mean for the rest of us? Last year, your greed cost us the expansion of Travers Park, when you prioritized profit from your car dealership over the safety of our children. We will continue to fight and not let you put our community in even more danger.

Without a pharmacy at this location, our densely populated neighborhoods will be less safe and our community will be more vulnerable to the Coronavirus. We are demanding that you - at the very least - extend the pharmacy’s lease until after the pandemic so that our neighbors can continue to count on this vital healthcare resource that sustains their health and life.

We urge you to do the right thing.
