Save Rouge Park - Demand MPP Vijay Vote No on Bill 5
MPP Vijay Thanigasalam
MPP Vijay Thanigasalam voted to sell the Greenbelt and block an investigation into Ford's corruption. Now, he supports Bill 5— a dangerous bill that guts the Endangered Species Act, removes protections for greenspaces, and gives Ford unchecked power to seize land.

I am writing as a resident of Scarborough-Rouge Park and a concerned Ontarian regarding the alarming changes proposed in Bill 5, The Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025. If passed, this bill would repeal Ontario's Endangered Species Act, 2007, replacing it with a drastically weakened framework for the protection of our province's vulnerable species. As the MPP representing the largest National Urban Park in the province, I urge you to take strong action by protecting your most vulnerable constituents, and voting NO on Bill 5.
In addition to repealing the Endangered Species Act, the most alarming changes that come with Bill 5 include:
1. Creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), where hand-picked developers can ignore municipal and provincial laws.
2. Unchecked control over any and all laws, including environmental, labour, and health & safety laws though creation of SEZ’s.
3. Allowing development on vulnerable habitat, conservation lands, farmlands, and Indigenous territory.
4. Inhibit development of clean energy by keeping Ontario dependent on imported fracked gas from the U.S.
5. Ending archaeological assessment requirements that would identify Indigenous or other cultural values.
This omnibus bill is dangerous and would have devastating impacts on generations of Ontarians to come. I urge you to take a strong stance against corruption and vote AGAINST passing Bill 5.
I thank you for your time and trust that you will do the right thing.
