Save the Brighton Tiny House Village

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell

Without Shelter People Die! That's why Nickelsville has worked for years planning a third tiny house village in Brighton. Nickelodeons successfully self-manage two villages in Northlake and the Central District to provide safe, empowering shelter for our neighbors during a homelessness crisis. We desperately need another village to create crucial housing for folks living outside. However, the Seattle Mayor, Bruce Harrell, abruptly canceled the use of the Brighton Village site in early August.

Nickelsville and our allies call on Bruce Harrell to work with Nickelsville to reinstate the Brighton Village site on 7112 Rainier Avenue South for use as a Nickelsville Tiny House Village.

Seattle has been in a state of homeless emergency since 2015. According to this year’s Point In Time Count there are 16,385 homeless people on any given night of which 60% or 9,810 are unsheltered. Last year over 400 homeless people died unsheltered, and so far, this year there have already been over 200 unsheltered homeless deaths according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. There is a tremendous need for more shelters to address our homeless crisis, especially for the preferred tiny house villages. For some of us living outside, this matter is life or death.
