Save the King Street Post Office in South Shields

Post Office Ltd Chairman and South Shields MP Emma Lewell Buck

Residents of South Tyneside are saddened to learn that the King Street Post Office, opened in 2017, is earmarked for closure.

The Post Office is a hub of the community and the only way that many people have to access vital services such as banking, paying bills and corresponding with loved ones - taking that away is just another blow to our already struggling local town centre.

Post Office UK made a profit of £50 million in 2023.

We are shocked, following the devastating Horizon scandal that affected many of their workers, that Post Office would cause further uncertainty and worry to their hard working staff with threats of job losses, just weeks before Christmas.

Our demands:

We call on Post Office Chairman, Nigel Railton, to work with the CWU (Communication Workers Union) and other agencies to reverse this decision and protect our local Post Office branch in King Street, South Shields from closure

We demand that local MP Emma Lewell Buck does all in her power to protect our local Post Office workers jobs, ensuring that the branch remains open - for the benefit of the whole community.
