Just #SayNoToAzar as HHS Secretary

Members of Senate

In an administration filled with one swampy Cabinet member after another, President Trump may have outdone himself with his latest choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Former Lilly USA, LLC, president and career drug company disciple Alex Azar has a long record of putting corporate interests ahead of the health care needs of working Americans.

Under his leadership, Eli Lilly’s insulin prices rose to $255 in 2016 for a vial that cost $21 in 1996. They pled guilty to a Department of Justice criminal complaint that resulted in $1.4 billion in criminal and civil fines. And in just the last year, the company spent millions on lobbyists to fight drug price transparency bills in Nevada and California that’d give Americans a better understanding of why the cost of their medicine has skyrocketed.

Trump’s repeatedly said that drug prices need to go “way down,” and 77% of Americans agree that prescription drug prices are unreasonable. We cannot let guys like Alex Azar, as Trump has put it, keep “getting away with murder” by profiting off of our pain.

Appointing career drug company disciple Alex Azar to HHS Secretary would put someone even less suited than the jet-setting Tom Price to lead one of the most important Cabinet positions today.

The former Lilly USA’s president’s record of putting corporate interests ahead of working people would be a detriment to the health care needs of Americans. 77% of Americans agree that Rx drug costs are unreasonable, with 73% saying that drug companies -- like Eli Lilly -- make too much profit. As a member of the U.S. Senate, you have the chance to show your constituents, and all working Americans, that you care about their health care needs.

Please, just #SayNoToAzar as HHS Secretary.
