House Oversight Committee Chair Jason Chaffetz & all members

Pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli appeared before the House Oversight Committee on February 4, 2016 to answer questions about Turing Pharmaceutical's decision to raise the price of life-saving Diagram from $13.50 to $750 per pill, a 5,000% increase.

He laughed and smirked his way through the hearing, repeatedly invoking the Fifth Amendment and refusing to answer any questions (except whether they pronounced his name correctly.)

At least one Republican on the committee (John Mica of Florida) has said that Shkreli should be held in contempt of Congress, but Chair Jason Chaffetz has declined to do so.

Holding a witness in contempt of Congress for failure to cooperate has been used over a dozen times since 1975. After deciding to hold a witness in contempt, the chair must refer the matter to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for prosecution.

What Martin Shkreli did by hiking the price of a life-saving drug was criminal, and his behavior at the House Oversight Committee was boorish and unacceptable. Please hold him in contempt.
