North Carolina state legislature

Under North Carolina law, a man is not guilty of rape if he continues to have intercourse with a woman who has asked him to stop—if she had initially agreed to sex at the outset.

North Carolina is the only state with such a law on the books, and activists have been fighting hard to get the legislature to fix it. But the Republican majority refuses to take this seriously.

Even though SB 553 has already been introduced in the General Assembly, and the legislature will be back in session in August & September. The GOP majority is more interested in playing partisan shenanigans.

The same Republican legislators who passed the deeply hateful anti-trans bathroom bill somehow don't have time to make a simple fix in state law that would protect women from sexual predators.

I am outraged that the North Carolina legislature is not willing to take up simple legislation that would go so far to protect women. Please pass SB 553.
