Sign if you agree: Teachers deserve pay equity and affordable healthcare

Politicians in both parties

Public school teachers do an invaluable service educating our children.

In return, they get paid less than other college-educated workers, are forced to spend more of their time on standardized testing, and are subject to political attacks from both Republicans and Democrats.

Teachers are speaking up about these injustices—but the politicians who can help them achieve pay equity and access affordable health care aren't listening.

West Virginia teachers went on strike to demand pay equity and changes to the health insurance system that will soon double premiums for teachers' families. On March 6, 2018, they secured a 5% raise for ALL state workers, including teachers, from the West Virginia legislature and Governor.

Now, teachers in Oklahoma and Kentucky are going on strike to demand the same from their state governments. Oklahoma teachers got a raise, but the Republican legislature cut taxes so there's no money to pay for it. That's why they are still on strike.

It's time for all politicians to heed teachers' demands. Pay equity and affordable, accessible health care are human rights—and our teachers need them.
