SIGN NOW: Demand Democrats in Congress investigate President Trump’s “instances of outright fraud” and release his tax returns

All House Democrats

Donald Trump has repeatedly refused to publicly release his tax returns, hiding behind the phony excuse of an IRS audit. A recent New York Times investigative report alleges that “President Trump participated in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud. ... [He] received the equivalent today of at least $413 million from his father’s real estate empire. … Much of this money came to Mr. Trump because he helped his parents dodge taxes.”

With Democrats about to take control of the U.S. House, they need to hear from us today: We demand a full investigation into allegations of “outright fraud” against the president due to his and his family’s tax dodging. We demand to see Trump’s tax returns to know how he is benefiting from his tax scam and other ways his personal finances present conflicts of interest! And, we demand that anti-corruption legislation being drafted require that all major presidential candidates and sitting presidents make their tax returns public.

Our research shows that a little-known 95-year-old law allows the chairs of congressional tax-writing committees to demand that the IRS provide them with Trump’s tax returns. That means that when Democrats take control of the U.S. House in January, they can unilaterally access what we’ve only guessed at so far.

We still do not know how Donald Trump and his family are benefiting from the Trump-GOP Tax Scam enacted last December or other policies implemented by his administration.

We still do not know the full extent of the financial relationship between Donald Trump and Russian oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin.

And we still do not know how Trump and his family may have abused our tax laws to avoid paying their fair share of taxes over many years.

It is up to Democrats in the House who now have real power to investigate very credible allegations against the president, including “outright fraud,” and hold him accountable to the American people.

For the past 40 years, presidential nominees of both major parties have released their tax returns in part to assure the public that, if elected, there will be no conflicts of interest. Now, we have a president who ― according to a New York Times investigative report ― participated in “outright fraud” to dodge taxes and enrich himself and his family. We demand Congress investigate these allegations immediately. We demand to see President Trump’s tax returns to know how he and his family are benefiting from his tax scam, other ways that his personal finances present conflicts of interest, and whether he has compromising financial ties with Russia and its oligarchs. And, we demand that anti-corruption legislation being drafted require that all major presidential candidates and sitting presidents make their tax returns public. It’s up to you to hold the president accountable to the American people.
