Sign now: Governor Wolf and all state legislators must uphold the constitution and protect the environment

Governor Tom Wolf and all PA Legislators

Pennsylvania’s constitution contains an important and rare protection in its environmental rights amendment. But since its adoption in 1971, it has been ignored by our elected officials. It’s time for that to change.

The effects of climate change are playing out in real time now and they're affecting all of us. Pennsylvania endured a year of flooding rains in 2018. In Western parts of the state, authorities blamed a landslide caused by the floods in Beaver County for the explosion of a one-week old natural gas pipeline that destroyed a home, a shed, and several vehicles in September.

Governor Wolf says he’d like to see the state receive 10% of its power from solar by 2030. Meanwhile, his administration and the state legislature have done everything they can to expand the shale gas business in Pennsylvania. Weak-kneed goals and continued enabling of the fossil fuel industry are NOT the way to protect Pennsylvanians or the planet.

We urge Governor Tom Wolf and all state legislators become the leaders that we need: Uphold our state's constitutionally-protected environmental rights by taking aggressive action on climate change and the environmental devastation that have plagued the state.
