Senate Democrats

After the Equifax scandal and the Wells Fargo fake accounts scam, Congress should be standing up against Trump’s mission to deregulate the big banks.

Instead, a top Republican senator just rolled out major legislation delivering more than two dozen deregulatory gifts to bank lobbyists, making banks that took tens of billions in bailout money exempt from too-big-to-fail oversight.

Unbelievably, a contingent of 10 corporate Democrats in the Senate is lining up behind this plan, hopeful their constituents won’t notice – but knowing their Wall Street donors will.

Sign the petition to Democrats: Don’t help Trump deregulate the banks.

Lobbyists have tried to spin this bill (S.2155) as only helping mom and pop banks, and the bill's lead sponsor, Republican Sen. Mike Crapo, put in a few weak “consumer protections” as a fig leaf to hide the giveaways to bank lobbyists.

But make no mistake: This bill would deregulate banks that took tens of billions in bailout money during the financial crisis. And it's not needed. Banks are making record profits, from community banks all the way up to Wall Street giants.

Ten members of the Senate Democratic Caucus have lined up behind Trump’s attack on President Obama’s landmark Wall Street reform legislation: Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp, Tim Kaine, Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, Gary Peters, Jon Tester, Mark Warner, Angus King, and Michael Bennet.

Champion for Wall Street reform Elizabeth Warren has sounded the alarm about this bill, saying, "This bill shows once again how Washington values short-term profits for big banks ahead of the interests of consumers or the safety of the financial system."

We need a massive outcry to convince these Democrats to drop the bill and stop it from sailing through the Senate. Please sign the petition now.

Sen. Mike Crapo’s bill attacking President Obama’s landmark Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Act puts consumers at risk of predatory lending and cuts away safeguards against another financial meltdown. The few minor “consumer protections” in this bill can’t hide the facts: it needlessly delivers more than two dozen deregulatory gifts to bank lobbyists, at a time banks are earning record profits. Please do everything in your power to stop the Crapo bill (S. 2155) from passing.
