Sign the petition: Demand Congress stop the deportation of veterans

Congress

Trump’s out-of-control administration is deporting veterans - people who served in uniform are being torn away from their homes and thrown out of the nation they swore to defend.

What’s even more infuriating is that the only way these veterans can come home is in a coffin, to receive a funeral with military honors. That’s proof of how unjust and broken Trump’s deportation machine can be.

Not only that, there is already a process in place that provides extra consideration for veteran immigration cases, but federal officials haven’t been following it. ICE continues to ignore its own policies requiring a service record review before deporting these veterans. In a review conducted by the Government Accountability Office, investigators found that 70 percent of cases involving the deportation of noncitizen veterans didn't get required reviews.

Two bills have already been introduced to stop the deportation of veterans: Veterans Visa and Protection Act, Immigrant Veterans Eligibility Tracking System (I-VETS) Act. These pieces of legislation will allow veterans who have been deported to return to this country, enabling them to live here with their families, and prevent more veterans from being deported.

One of the many reasons immigrants volunteer for military service is their desire to give back to the country that has welcomed them and become their home. We must demand Congress pass these protections. This is the most egregious way to treat our veterans, and proves that Trump’s deportation machine is out of control.

We demand you pass legislation to put an end to the deportations of veterans and bring home the ones already deported. Immigrants who served this country in uniform should not be torn away from their families and homes.
