Stop Jim Crow voting schemes! Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (HR4)!

Congress

On Thursday, March 25, Georgia Republicans, in a vindictive attempt to regain power, passed the harshest voter suppression bill since the Jim Crow era.

We MUST act now to combat all voter suppression by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act (HR4)!

This bill created more rigid voter identification requirements for absentee balloting, limited drop boxes, expanded the Legislature’s power over elections, and even made it illegal to pass out water to voters who sometimes have to wait hours in line.

Georgia is the first of many states slated to enact racist and discriminatory voting bills in revenge for Republicans losing control of Congress in the 2020 election cycle.

We cannot let Republican-controlled states continue this vengeful mission to strip away voting rights, particularly impacting black and brown voters. We must urge our congresspeople to pass HR4 and protect voting rights across the country.

HR 4 (The John Lewis Voting Rights Act) would strengthen voting rights by expanding and strengthening the government's ability to respond to voting discrimination. This bill will allow the federal government to determine whether voter suppression is taking place and send in enforcement to protect those being affected.

The House of Representatives passed the bill on December 6, 2019. On July 22, 2020, Sen. Leahy reintroduced the bill as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to honor the late civil rights hero and voting rights champion. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act has not yet been reintroduced in Congress.

After the horrific events in Georgia--John Lewis's home state--last week, we cannot let this bigoted plan to overthrow fair elections and suppress voters continue--- we must urge the House to reintroduce HR4.

Sign the petition: We MUST pass HR4 and protect voting rights across America.
