Sign the Petition: Those who want to vote by mail must be able to

U.S. Senate

In the middle of a global pandemic, President Trump and some politicians are attacking our right to vote by mail -- in a blatant effort to disenfranchise everyday Americans.

Republican legislators in states like Oklahoma and Texas refuse to make absentee voting more accessible. Their restrictions could pose insurmountable barriers for voters -- especially Black voters and other voters of color.

And Trump -- who cast a mail-in ballot in this year’s primary -- has tried to undermine vote-by-mail in every way he can. He has spread widely debunked lies about the reform... threatened state officials who promote vote-by-mail... and even targeted the Postal Service, as his hand-picked postmaster general tries to slow down mail delivery.

Let’s be clear: eligible voters should have the right to cast their ballot by mail. Mail-in voting is a paper-based system that is safe and accessible. It can easily be audited to ensure election results are correct -- and it has already been tested and proven secure in states across the country.

That’s why many leading Republican and Democratic officials have long supported vote-by-mail. And it’s why the Senate must ensure that any voter who wants to cast a mail-in ballot in November is able to.

That means our senators must:
- Pass the Delivering for America Act, which would forbid major changes to the USPS during the COVID-19 crisis;
- Allocate ample funding to preserve the Postal Service;
- Expand vote-by-mail options wherever possible; and
- Invest the $3.6 billion in states that experts say they’ll need to hold safe and secure elections this fall.

If you believe that Congress shouldn’t let this pandemic strip us of our right to vote -- add your name now.

No one should have to choose between risking their health at the polls or forfeiting their right to vote during this pandemic. Every voter who wants to cast a mail-in ballot in November should be able to.

That’s why the Senate must immediately step up to defend our rights -- by funding and protecting the U.S. Postal Service, expanding vote-by-mail options wherever possible, and approving the $3.6 billion experts say states need to hold safe and accessible elections this fall.
