Sign the petition to Republicans: Stop holding the Community Health Center Fund hostage

House and Senate Republicans

The federal government shutdown has ended for now, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) has had its funding renewed for the next six years.

But don't let House Republicans get away with claiming they restored health care for children, because it's simply not true.

The Community Health Center Fund—which accounts for 70% of the funding for 2,800 community health centers that provide primary healthcare to 27 million Americans—has also seen its funding lapse. The continuing resolution that ended the shutdown did not restore funding to the Community Health Center Fund. Republicans are still holding it hostage.

The impact of not renewing full funding to the Community Health Center Fund is just as serious as the impact of CHIP funding not being renewed. That's because many of the children who receive health insurance coverage through CHIP use community health centers for primary care.

Children don't just need health insurance--they need doctors who can take care of them. As long as Republicans continue to hold the Community Health Center Fund hostage, many children are in danger of losing access to actual health care services, whether they have insurance or not.

I am outraged that despite CHIP funding being renewed for six years, you are still holding the Community Health Center Fund hostage. Restore full, long-term funding now.
