federal workers, civil service employees, appointees and agency heads who are not required to resign

Right now, President Obama has begun the process of transitioning the government to the wholly unprepared President-Elect Trump. Traditionally, many federal workers, civil service employees, appointees and agency heads offer resignation effective after inauguration so that the next President can bring in his choice of people.

This is not required--it's a mere courtesy. Many of these experienced professionals have time left before their terms are up and could technically not offer their resignations. This could effectively save our government from a meltdown of inexperience, bigotry and extremism.

Trump has made it very clear that he will surround himself with white nationalists, climate deniers, and other entirely unqualified public servants--including asking that his children have top-secret security clearance all while running his business for him.

Now more than ever, we need the professionalism and experience of qualified public servants to keep our government running and hold back the tide of destructive Trump forces, given that the incoming President has zero-government experience and exhibits irrational behavior.

There are many federal workers, civil service employees, certain appointees, and some agency heads who can hold their positions to make a positive difference. We need to support them in the face of the incoming administration.

Sign the petition: We support federal workers, civil service employees, and agency heads staying in their posts to serve their full terms into the Trump administration. We must resist the forces of bigotry, extremism and destruction.

If you have time left to serve on your term, we the undersigned, strongly encourage you to stay in your post. We need qualified public servants to stay in their positions and keep the country running.

The President-Elect has shown he is not prepared for the enormous task of a transition of power and we implore you to stay in your post.

Additionally, the people he is surrounding himself with are not qualified to lead this nation. We know this may be a difficult administration to work within. Still, we urge you to keep your position for the good of your country.
