Sign to tell NY Gov Cuomo: Put your money where your mouth is and fund Early Voting!

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Governor Cuomo promised the people of New York that he'd support statewide Early Voting. But he has to put his money where his mouth is. Setting up Early Voting will cost counties money -- $6.4 million, in fact, according to Cuomo himself.

So Governor Cuomo must include at least $6.4 million in funding for Early Voting in the 30-day amendment period to his $168 billion Executive Budget. That means we have until February 15 to put pressure on him to fund Early Voting.

More than 2/3 of the states – 37 states plus D.C. – offer some form of an Early Voting period before election day, making voting more accessible for working people who can’t easily get to the polls on election day.

Early Voting, which gives voters the freedom to vote at their own chosen time, is a non-partisan issue that is popular with millions of New York voters. According to a recent Siena College poll, 65% of New Yorkers support some form of Early Voting, no matter what part of the state they live in.

Voting should be fair and accessible for all eligible voters across New York State, whether they live in a rural area, suburban town or crowded city. All eligible New Yorkers deserve an opportunity to get to the polls and vote when they are most free to do so, without compromising their job or family responsibilities.

Please sign the petition now to call on Governor Cuomo to exercise his leadership and provide funding for Early Voting in the 30-day amendments to the Executive Budget. He must allocate funding to implement Early Voting, and soon. His window to do so is quickly closing. A coalition of organizations across NY will deliver these petitions to Cuomo by February 14, so add your name now.

It’s time for New York to join the 37 states and DC that offer Early Voting. We urge you to do more than just talk this year and actually commit to giving eligible New Yorkers the freedom to vote by including at least $6.4 million in funding for Early Voting in the 30-day amendments to your $168 billion Executive Budget. It’s a bipartisan no-brainer: everyone deserves an opportunity to get to the polls and vote when it’s convenient. No one should have to choose between their family, their job and their vote -- fund early voting and #LetNYvote in 2018!
