Solidaridad with Local 6135, Puerto Rico

GFR Media

As Puerto Rico was battered by Hurricane Maria, members of USW Local 6135 worked non-stop for GFR Media Enterprise, publishers of El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora. Our sisters and brothers risked their lives to keep residents informed, and worked tirelessly despite many of them losing their own homes, cars and having to struggle for basic necessities.

Now, GFR has axed 59 employees in what the company is calling "a temporary layoff" with no severance pay. GFR is using the hurricane as an excuse as other employers have worked with us during this once-in-a-lifetime tragedy to keep people working.

Sign our petition to let GFR Media know that what they are doing is immoral, that our sisters and brothers should be given their jobs back, and that you stand in solidarity with Local 6135 members!

Dear GFR Media,

The men and women at GFR Media risked their lives as they tirelessly covered Hurricane Maria, despite many suffering tremendous personal loss.

Before the hurricane, these talented journalists, cartoonists, designers, clerks and others worked hard to tell the stories of Puerto Rico for GFR's El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora.

As we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of Local 6135, we call on you to do what other Puerto Rican employees have done in the wake of Hurricane Maria: respect workers' rights, protect their jobs and show compassion in difficult times.

The world is watching.

Thank you.
