Stand Against Abuse in the UCI School of Medicine

We've all heard the horror stories: PIs belittling, demeaning, yelling at, and even physically threatening their academic workers at UCI. Our colleague, Subbu, has been experiencing this kind of abusive conduct for the last 2 months in Dr Hussain's lab in the School of Medicine. On March 26th, this behavior escalated when Dr Hussain pushed Subbu and tried to restrain him from leaving his office. We all deserve to be able to work with dignity, and it is crucial that the university do its part to protect workers when this kind of abuse occurs. We the undersigned demand that the School of Medicine address unsafe working conditions and a pattern of harassment endured by our colleague, Subburathinam Balakrishnan PhD. Specifically, we demand:

- An immediate end to all abusive conduct, and that the School of Medicine ensure all Academic Workers have a safe and respectful working environment.
- That Dr. Balakrishnan be assigned a new supervisor for the remainder of his appointment.
