Stand with MSU Graduate Employees

Supporters of Graduate Labor

The Graduate Employees Union (GEU) is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the rights and benefits of ALL graduate employees at MSU. We are both students and employees at the university, and we are proud to provide a sound education to undergrads here at MSU.

GEU is currently bargaining with MSU for our next contract.

Before TAs had a union, there hadn’t been an increase in wages at MSU for 13 years. GEU’s first contract set standards that allow TAs to bargain more effectively to support their well-being and professional development. Now, we bargain a contract on behalf of TAs (and by extension our RA/GA associate members) every four years.

MSU’s current contract proposals are inadequate and devalue TAs.

Stand up for the people who teach over 1/3 of the courses and grade 2/3 of the work here at MSU. Stand up for MSU Teaching Assistants and Stand up for THIS.

I believe that the work graduate employees do ensures that MSU excels in teaching and research.
I believe that graduate students should be able to do this work free from financial hardships in a just, accessible and inclusive environment.

We demand that MSU administrators respect:
1. Tuition Waivers: MSU is one of only two Big 10 school that does not provide a comprehensive tuition waiver.
2. Healthcare: Graduate employees need access to quality, affordable healthcare. Our work conditions are our students learning conditions!
3. Inclusivity: Spartans should work, study and live in an environment that is inclusive, accessible and just. Our workplace should be free from harassment of any sort.
4. Salary: Graduate employees deserve to be fairly compensated for all they do for MSU. Currently our salaries rank near the bottom of other Big 10 schools.
