Every Milwaukee Public School student deserves a quality public education in schools with caring, qualified, and committed substitute teachers. However, Milwaukee Public Schools is not showing substitute teachers that they are valued for their commitment to our children.

I stand with MPS substitute teachers in their fight for respect and support the following demands:

· An end to the outsourcing of substitute teacher work to the temp agency Goodwill TalentBridge. All outsourcing of substitute teachers is privatization. With privatization, there is less public accountability and public resources are used for private profit. There is no evidence to show that a third party can improve student outcomes. The best substitute teachers for our students are part of the MPS family.

· Quality health care benefits for substitute teachers who make teaching their profession. Substitute teachers deserve affordable health care benefits. By offering health care, we can attract and retain substitute teachers who are qualified, caring and committed.
