Stand with your community and hold the Norfolk School Board accountable
NPS School Board
Dear Norfolk Community,
On September 21, 2022, NPS School Board Chair Carlos Clanton cut the cameras on the School Board Business Meeting recording.
Soon after timestamp 2:02:06, Chairman Clanton says, "We're about to adjourn the Business Meeting and go into Citizens' Comments—Non-Agenda Comments." Then, the recording stops.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Citizens' Comments on Non-Agenda Items is the best opportunity for Norfolk community members—from NPS employees to parents and other concerned citizens—to speak directly to the School Board. Unlike other forms of communication, this is a chance for citizens to voice their concerns PUBLICLY. When the School Board prevents record of Public Comment, transparency and accountability from the Board to the citizens of Norfolk is endangered.
The public has a right to know what is said at public meetings, entirely. We will not stand for a School Board that hides information.
OUR DEMANDS
- We demand the Norfolk Public School Board, led by Chair Carlos Clanton, to release an official public statement on the cutting of the September 21st School Board Business Meeting recording.
- We demand a transcription of the Public Comment portion of the meeting that was not broadcasted.
- We demand an explicit commitment to record and share all public School Board meetings in their entirety.
- We demand an explicit commitment to prioritize Citizens' Comments on Non-Agenda Items.
Will you add your name, along with your fellow Norfolk community members and NPS employees, to demand transparency and accountability from our School Board?
