Stop Attacking and Jailing Philippine Trade Unionists

President Rodrigo Duterte and Local Law Enforcement Officials

Disturbing reports from the Philippines indicate that on October 31 military police raided the regional offices of several progressive and union organizations in Bacolod, arresting union organizer Anne Krueger and dozens of others. Witnesses to the raid report that those conducting the raid planted two pistols and eight bullets in two parts of the property as a pretext to make the arrests.

Anne Krueger, along with her husband Michael de la Concepcion, are longtime union organizers in the Philippines and allies of the Communications Workers of America, even hosting striking CWA members in their homes when a delegation visited during the 2016 Verizon strike.

These arrests are part of an escalating campaign to silence and intimidate those seeking to improve the lives and conditions of Filipino workers.

Anne has been released on bail but still faces charges and other activists remain incarcerated. Support Anne and other Philippine union organizers by signing the petition to Philippine President President Rodrigo Duterte and local law enforcement officials.

Recent reports indicate that military police have been making false accusations and arresting union and progressive organizers in the Philippines. These efforts to silence and intimidate those seeking to improve the lives and conditions of Filipino workers are unacceptable. I condemn the raids and stand in solidarity with those who were arrested and face charges.
