Stop the Energy Rate Hikes – Say NO to the "Project Marvel" Bessemer Data Center!
Bessemer City Council

Please sign today! The Bessemer City Council is expected to vote on this at their Tuesday, August 19 meeting.
"Project Marvel", a proposed data center in Bessemer, would increase utility bills and energy demand in our community. We believe Bessemer residents deserve clean, affordable energy — not higher costs and environmental harm.

Dear City Council Member
If allowed to come to fruition, the projected new data center for Bessemer, Alabama would be the third largest data center in the country. This facility, dubbed "Project Marvel", would be the size of more than 18 Walmart super-centers right in our backyard. This project would have massive negative impacts on currently zoned agricultural (forested) land and Bessemer residents.
The residents of Bessemer, Alabama will experience enormous environmental impacts such as the diversion of extreme amounts of water to cool the new data center; upwards of 2 million gallons per day. And the costs to operate this center will be passed onto consumers.
Impacts include:
- The massive amounts of electricity needed to power its servers, storage, and cooling systems.
- They are also heavily reliant on fossil fuels to provide electricity which results in increased carbon emissions.
- The enormous amount of water needed to maintain their cooling systems.
We ask that you not allow this project to move forward. Vote NO on August 19th for "Project Marvel".
Thank you
You constituents
