Stop Three-Vodafone Merger

The UK Government

The merger of telecommunications giants Three and Vodafone UK ushers in serious concerns about huge price increases and raises profound questions on national security.

Make no mistake: this proposed combination is nothing more than corporate greed, designed to strip 27 million people – the combined total users of Three and Vodafone – of both their privacy and their power.

Did you know?

1 in 3 households are already struggling to pay their mobile and broadband bills. This merger will reduce competition, making it easier for mobile companies to raise prices and harder for mobile users to keep up with rising costs. The merger is likely to lead to an increase in prices of up to 50%, or an additional £300 per year on the average mobile bill.

The bosses of Three’s parent company, CK Group, collaborate with Chinese state repression of Hong Kong. Vodafone is a strategic supplier to the UK government and provides data and telecom services to the Ministry of Justice and the NHS. This merger would give CK Group access to sensitive government contracts.

We can stop this reckless merger before it’s too late.

The proposed Three and Vodafone merger will create a telecoms cartel with devastating effects on mobile consumers across the UK and usher in national security concerns.

The merger is likely to lead to an increase in prices of up to 50%, or an additional £300 per year on the average mobile bill. In the midst of the cost of living crisis when over 2.2 million UK households are already struggling to pay their mobile and broadband costs, we cannot afford to increase our bills to make corporations richer. As well as boosting profits and driving up prices for consumers, a merger would mean big job cuts – up to 1,600 jobs could be lost if the merger goes through, in addition to the 11,000 global job cuts Vodafone have recently announced.

This merger also raises significant national security questions given Three’s parent company, CK Group’s, deep links with the Chinese state and Vodafone’s sensitive government and public sector contracts. Vodafone is a strategic supplier to the UK government and provides data and telecom services to the Ministry of Justice and the NHS, and hold many other public sector contracts. The merger would give CK Group significant control over the data of 27 million customers.

Stop this reckless merger before it’s too late.
