Support Economic Security for All CT Women!

Connecticut General Assembly

It is 2018 and…

Latina women in Connecticut earn just 47 cents to every dollar paid to white men.

One in 4 new moms return to work two weeks after giving birth.

Nearly 10% of women and 25% of single mothers in our state live in poverty.

On average, women working full-time in CT lose a combined total of $5.5 billion due to the wage gap.

Policies that advance the economic security of women in our state are good for families, for business and Connecticut’s economy.

When women succeed, Connecticut prospers.

Our elected leaders need to hear you loud and clear!  Join CWEALF to call on state lawmakers to pass comprehensive legislation that advances the economic security of women across Connecticut.

In 2018, the Connecticut General Assembly must act to:

1.     Implement paid family and medical leave

2.     Combat the gender wage gap

3.     Expand sexual harassment training

4.     Improve access to comprehensive health care

5.     Advance employment opportunities for women

6.     Increase the minimum wage

Too many women in Connecticut struggle every day to make ends meet. According to the National Women's Law Center, 9.9% of women and 25% of single mothers in our state live in poverty.

The economic success and security of women is critical to the prosperity of Connecticut's businesses and the strength of our economy. Without access to paid leave and equal pay, women lose out on valuable wages that they would otherwise spend on basic expenses, paying their bills, or saving for emergencies or retirement.

I urge you to support legislation to support women’s abilities to provide for themselves and their families, and repair the damage of ongoing discrimination, harassment and abuse in workplaces across Connecticut.

To remain competitive in our region and nationally, it is critical that we act this year to:

1. Implement paid family and medical leave
2. Combat the gender wage gap through comprehensive pay equity legislation
3. Prevent sexual harassment through enhanced training and reporting
4. Improve access to health care
5. Advance employment opportunities for women
6. Increase the minimum wage.

Thank you.
