We, the dedicated employees of the Sonia Shankman O School, are concerned for our students, our safety and the services we provide as we reopen during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. After spending resources resisting our efforts, last week the O School administration agreed to voluntarily recognize our union! This important victory reflects the strength of our unity and determination. Standing together, we won.

Unfortunately, not all the news is good news. Prior to agreeing to recognize the union, O School management laid off about a third of the counselors. We still have a long journey ahead as many serious issues at the O School remain unresolved, including the layoffs, staffing and ongoing safety issues.
